The ongoing impeachment trial of the highest judicial officer of the land has produced a lot of conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, we had been too busy with our life to take note of them. Still, it’s not too late.
One of the conspiracy theories floating around the Internet is the claim that Chief Justice Renato Corona himself was the one who leaked his own bank accounts, but doctored, because the plan all along was to make the Senate sitting as an impeachment court to strike out those pieces of evidence for being the fruit of the poisonous tree. The claim goes like this:
1. CJ Corona claims that his bank accounts had already been probed as early as November 2011.
2. But Congressmen Umali and Banal only received copies of the bank accounts in February 2012.
3. In fact, Congressman Banal went to the PS Bank only in February 2012, as corroborated by the bank manager herself.
As “Martial Bonifacio” commented at RaissaRobles.com:
“Motion to quash the evidence” yan ang plano from the very beginning ng defense thats why they released the “ALTERED documents” so the defense can challenge the admissibility of the evidence, that it was a FAKE Document or it came from a fruit of the poisonous tree but,
The defense miscalculated though that the senator judges accepted the bank accounts as evidence and now im sure they will ask the SC to have a urgent decision to quash the evidence since the defense know that the senate bows down to supreme courts ruling.
Even journalist Raissa Robles herself has thought of the same idea: (scroll to the bottom of the article)
But why would Corona himself or someone in his camp want to leak his own bank documents? What would that accomplish?
The only answer I can think of – and I’m not saying this is true or that the Corona camp did such a clever, clever thing – is to mess up the evidence so that these cannot at all be admitted in court as evidence.
I came across this article from June 2011 claiming that the anti-RH bill camp will be asking help from the military (coup d’etat?) if the Reproductive Health bill will be passed into law.
According to the report, Solidarity for Sovereignty (S4S) co-convenor Maria Linda Olaguer-Montayre said this.
There is another “conspiracy” story circulating about the RH bill, stating that it is the work of the Western nations to keep the number of Filipinos at low levels.
Rene Azurin of Business World correctly points out how easy it would be to rig election results now that we are using an electronic system for the elections:
Dagdag-bawas, done electronically, is child’s play. Moreover, the conspiracy required to rig elections need no longer be widespread — as it was in the manual dagdag-bawas of Garci’s time — but will only need to involve one system programmer and a few strategically placed individuals. In the hands of these few will be the power to decide who our country’s future leaders will be.
Related to this, there seems to be a conspiracy to attack COMELEC Commissioner Gus Lagman, who has opposed the continued use of Smartmatic machines for our next elections:
Expectedly, after a brief pause, the Smartmatic lobby has kicked into high gear again with the almost simultaneous appearance in different papers of virtually the same article (under different column bylines) hawking the purchase of the “fraud-able” voting machines deployed by Smartmatic in the 2010 elections and attacking Comelec Commissioner Gus Lagman. [...]
The attack on Mr. Lagman, who currently seems to be the only objector on the Commission on Elections’s board to Smartmatic’s insidious plan, is presumably being done to prevent his confirmation.
One of the ingredients of a good conspiracy theory is the plausibility of the cited facts. See for yourself in this 15-minute video. I’m definitely pro-Aquino, but what is presented in the video appeals to my love for conspiracy theories. Treat it like a horoscope: you don’t have to believe everything. Or anything at all.
Thanks to Vladz Daño for bringing this video to my attention.
Apparently the United States did not want the Philippines to pass the cheaper medicines law last Congress.
At least this was revealed in cables which are part of the WikiLeaks cache.
The United States apparently lobbied with then senator Mar Roxas II and Quirino Congressman Junie Cua who sponsored the bill which later became Republic Act No. 9502.
Perhaps this was part of the reason why Mar Roxas did not win the vice-presidency.
Former President and now Pampanga Congressman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA) along with 40 other individuals were among those listed in Watch List Order (WLO) No. 573 issued by DOJ Chief State Counsel Ricardo Paras III. The reason? Conspiracy to rig the 2007 midterm elections.
Including their names in the watch list order would mean that they cannot go out of the country without asking permission from the Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary herself, Sec. Leila de Lima. This was considered necessary since the preliminary investigation about the 2007 election rigging conspiracy has started.
Just about two weeks ago, the Senate Blue Ribbon committee filed graft charges against former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo and company for the helicopter conspiracy.
Last week, the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, specifically Senators Aquilino Pimentel Jr., Panfilo Lacson and Teofisto Guingona filed graft charges with the Office of the Ombudsman against former first gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, former DILG secretary Ronaldo Puno, former chief of police Jesus Versoza and others. The case? A conspiracy to to sell used helicopters to the Philippine National Police for the price of new.
For lack of a better term, let’s call this the helicopter conspiracy.
